Peggy Morrison explains why there is a pattern of lower salaries among female workers in nonprofits:

“One thing in the 70 interviews that I did in our research shows that women will negotiate for salary before they join a non-profit, but once they join the nonprofit it becomes their family and they are very reluctant to advocate for themselves. “
