Each year in May, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh is one of more than 300 Habitat affiliates nationwide that celebrates National Women Build Week in conjunction with Lowe’s, Habitat’s longtime partner of this event. The goal of Women Build is to challenge and empower women from all walks of life to join together in helping us to provide Pittsburgh families with decent, affordable homes and repairs. Women Build is not about excluding men—in fact, men are welcome to participate alongside our women volunteers—but rather it is about celebrating women volunteers and opening new opportunities to them on Habitat jobsites.
This year, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh has been selected to receive a $25,000 grant from Lowe’s to support the rehabilitation of a Pittsburgh home. To receive this grant, we need to engage 300 volunteers in our Women Build week, which will be extended this year to run from April 25-May 10 to allow more women volunteers to be involved. We are looking for corporate sponsors, groups, and individuals of all ages to participate in this event. No construction experience is required. Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate. Volunteers will be rewarded with home rehab experience, receive a commemorative Women Build t-shirt, and have memories that will last a lifetime.
