BoardsWork! Scholarships are Available!

A unique opportunity exclusively for nonprofits serving children and youth in our region has been made possible through the generosity of the Grable Foundation!  We are pleased to invite you to apply for a subsidized 50% scholarship to become a BoardsWork! Award Agency.

A critical success factor for a strong nonprofit that is able to fully meet its mission and effectively serve the children, youth and families who depend on it is a board that leads strategic thinking, develops financial resources and fully ensures the future success of the enterprise.

BoardsWork! (BW!) is a program of the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management (BCNM) developed to improve nonprofit board governance. Through a customized retreat, BW! will help your board identify areas that need enhancement such as clarification of roles and responsibilities, strategic thinking, financial oversight, policies and procedures, or fundraising strategy.  After the retreat, you will either be matched with 1-2 newly trained board members OR have two of your current board members attend a full day BW! governance training to further your board’s growth and development…whichever is best for your board!

Agencies that have participated in the BW! program report higher energy and more effective meetings, greater engagement with the organization including with fundraising and more productive boards in general. The cost to participate is only $500 for the full BW! program including board matching (normally $1,000) or $750 for the full BW! program with two of your current board members attending the full day BW! training (normally $1,500).

Please complete the BoardsWork! Scholarship Application for Nonprofits Serving Children and Youth by May 23rd.  A limited number of these scholarships are available so please let us know why your board will benefit the most. For questions about BW! or this opportunity, please contact BoardsWork! Program Director Lulu Orr at 412-397-6012 or boardswork@rmu.edu.
